Life Experience - The Ups, Bumps and Lumps
Jim's background is varied with plenty of water under the bridge. He's cut a wide swath along his career path and is able to bring unique and refreshing perspectives to Participants though his FocusMax business & sales coaching workshop system.
A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, Jim's is not a story of rising from the ashes to the pinnacle of success. He is someone who has felt the euphoria of the 'ups' of life, and has indeed felt the devastating effects of thumps, bumps and lumps that real life can hand out.
Jim has sold tangibles and intangibles; he's managed union and non-union staffs; he has coordinated multi-million dollar capital fundraising campaigns involving hundreds of volunteers; he has held high profile positions in Canadian agriculture; he has been a corporate sales and corporate culture innovator and implementor; he has held a senior management position with a high profile health insurance corporation; he has cowboyed and most recently was a contracted VP of a small Canadian oil & gas company. On top of it all, Jim is an award-winning singer/songwriter entertainer, having been in the music business since 1976.
The Evolution of FocusMax
Jim's transferable skills have indeed served him well. Throughout the years, he has hung on to two very distinctly different skills: creativity and helping others. At the foundation is his creative side, where he has been an award winning singer/songwriter since the late '70's and still performs in Canada and the United States.
On the mentoring side, the culmination of his business and management background led to his development of a 'focussing system', which he has rejuvenated now as FocusMax.
His facilitating/coaching started in 1993, when he took an entrepreneurial leap from the security of a high paying senior management position to help begin a western Canadian franchise of one of the most prestigious entrepreneurial coaching companies on the planet.
This life altering move propelled Jim into a further myriad of consulting activities involving coaching, training, program and business development.
A New Stage in Life
With his wife Marion, they have entered a new stage in life as empty nesters. They have five wonderful independent adult children in their blended family.
Jim feels that much of his interpersonal skill and work ethic can be attributed to his athletic background. Jim was a nationally ranked Canadian university level springboard diver and track athlete, played organized hockey for nearly 40 years, and is a single digit handicap on the golf course.
